Arts of Communication in a class

Yesterday I attended a statistics class (API201A), which was one of core classes for MPP students. Since my major was economics when I was an undergraduate in Japan, I know some basic rules of statistics and do not need to learn it. However, I enjoy the class every week because I found the way of teaching here was totally different from that in Japan. Here, professors often use examples and lay emphasis on practical application of some rules to real cases, which helps me understand them more deeply. In Japan, that kind of theories tends to be discussed very abstractly, which I believe prevents many students from becoming fond of statistics. Therefore I feel that “Arts of Communication”, which is the way to teach statistics here is very important even in graduate school classes.
